In 1981, founded in the early twentieth century by the Hungarian immigrant Henry Forstein in Malden, Massachusetts, Malden Mills introduced to the world a new line of fleece materials called Polarfleece. Today this family of materials is called Polartec Classic and it can be found in the collections of all the world's leading manufacturers of hiking, mountaineering and military outfit.
Polartec materials made a real technical breakthrough. More budget fleece materials of the time had a rather trivial structure and manufacturing process. With Polartec a much more labor-intensive process.
Today, the company is one of the largest manufacturers of clothing materials in the Outdoor industry. Polartec Classic 100 (100 g/m2) is a thin fleece material that provides breathability and moderate thermal insulation, used in sewing medium insulation layer for hikers and skiers.
Company research has shown that the material has excellent breathability and high thermal insulation properties without adding weight.
