The 3M™ PELTOR™ ComTac™ VIII is the next generation of the tactical communications and hearing protection headset platform with a refreshed look, improved system integration and auditory situational awareness that helps operators gain a tactical advantage during operations. The ear cups, headband, and microphone mount have been completely redesigned to help reduce noise, increase comfort, and overall ease of use for the operator.

● Listening to the environment for auditory situational awareness;
● Hearing protection against impulse and continuous noise;
● Advanced listening mode with Mission Audio Profiles (MAP) for maximum audibility depending on the acoustic environment;
● Earplug mode to help maintain auditory situational awareness when used in conjunction with earplugs (sold separately);
● Sound cancellation to improve speech intelligibility during radio communications;
● Tested in accordance with current military and standards;
● The ambient listening feature, also known as "through listening," allows safe sounds to bypass personal electronic hearing protection while helping to protect against harmful noise;
● The microphone picks up sounds from outside the headset and transmits them to the speaker inside the headset. The level-sensitive digital audio system detects noise levels above the desired threshold and compresses them to a safe decibel level or amplifies weak sounds to an audible level;
● The MAP feature provides enhanced ambient listening modes that give you access to a variety of gain settings, but with frequency correction, to improve your listening performance in five environments. The MAP profiles have been designed to meet the needs of a variety of combat and combat support operations;
● External communication and ambient listening functions are independent to provide Rx/Tx fault tolerance; in the event of electronics failure or battery failure, communication with external devices will continue to function.
